News External

News External are news articles that live on other websites (e.g., Duke Engineering News, Duke Today, Science Mag). We link to the external news source rather than duplicating content.

Add News External

  1. Go to Content

  1. Click the Add Content button

  1. Select News External from the list of content types
  2. Enter a Title*
  3. Tag a Research topic; this will associate the External News item with a Research topic. The External News item will be displayed in the sidebar on the associated Research page. 
  4. Enter the media Outlet* where this news item will link to (e.g., Duke Today, Science) 
  5. Enter the External Link* or URL where the news item will link to (e.g., https://today.duke.edu) 
  6. Add a News Thumbnail to be displayed in the news summary views; for best results, crop the image to 16:9 ratio.  
  7. Enter brief Summary text to be displayed in the news summary views.
  8. Enter more robust text in the Body field. Note: if text is entered in the Summary field and Body field, the Summary text will be displayed in the News views.
  9. Click Save

Adjusting the Date of a News item

Authoring information tab

Dates can be adjusted by click on the Authoring information tab located on the right side of the page, while editing a news item. 

The Authored on date can be backdated. Clicking on the calendar icon will make an interactive calendar appear and the desired date can be selected.
